Larchwood Cottage
Cromarty Firth Highland walking Loch Mullardoch Scottish mountains

Larchwood Cottage is a fantastic base for enjoying all that the Highlands offer. There are loads of Great Activities to do locally. For walkers there is an extensive network of waymarked paths in the forested areas around Larchwood Cottage. Cyclists can set off from the cottage along flat, quiet roads that allow you to explore the surrounding area and can join up with Sustrans routes that pass close by. The beaches at Dornoch, Embo and Portmahomack are all fantastic places for a family day out.

If you are a golfer there is the Championship Course at Dornoch, and the golf course at Tain which both offer a terrific round of golf.

Great Eating and Drinking options include Delny House Hotel, the Oyster Catcher in Portmahomack and the 2 Quail Restaurant and Rooms in Dornoch. For lunch you can head along to the Storehouse of Foulis which has a wonderful setting on the Cromarty Firth shoreline.

In the area Great Places to Visit include Glenmorangie Whisky Distillery in Tain and Dalmore Distillery in Invergordon. If you prefer beer then take a trip to the Black Isle Brewery, an organic microbrewery.

Dunrobin Castle in Golspie is the most northerly of Scotland's great houses and is well worth a visit, as are The Tain through Time Museum and the Tarbat Discovery Centre which both give a taste of the history and culture of the area.

For some Great Places to Shop, start at ANTA design in Fearn, followed by a trip to Tain Pottery. In Dornoch there are numerous gift shops including Dornoch Jail. The "Harrods of the North" can be found at the Falls of Shin and, if you go at the right time of year (usually February and September) you can watch the salmon leap. And of course Inverness offers all that you would expect from a city.

Great house, very peaceful and a good location for travelling around. Highlights - Duncansby Head, Summer Isles, Dornoch Beach, dolphins and chilling out in the conservatory!!
